FLOAT TRIPS

World-Class Tailwaters & Freestone Action in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem

Our float trips take anglers through some of Wyoming’s most dynamic and productive trout fisheries. Whether you’re casting tight to banks on the Lower Shoshone, drifting through canyon walls on the North Fork, or hunting big browns on the Bighorn River, each float offers a combination of wild fish, incredible scenery, and technical fishing suited for every skill level.

Float trips are a great choice for anglers who want to cover water efficiently, experience varied terrain, and enjoy a relaxed yet action-packed day on the river.

WHAT TO EXPECT ON YOUR FLOAT TRIP

A Full Day on the Water

Our floats typically run 6–8 hours, depending on flows, weather, and how the fishing is shaping up. You’ll meet your guide in the morning, run through a quick river plan, and then launch from one of our local put-ins.

Personalized Instruction & Local Expertise

Whether you're a beginner learning to cast or an experienced angler fine-tuning your drift, your guide will tailor the trip to your skill level and fishing goals. Expect hands-on coaching, insight into seasonal patterns, and an understanding of how these rivers change with flows and time of year.

Comfortable & Well-Equipped Boat

Our drift boats and rafts are set up for comfort and stability, with:

  • Spacious casting braces

  • High-quality rods and reels (or bring your own)

  • Premium flies, tippet, and terminal tackle

  • Dry storage for personal items

  • Cooler with drinks + lunch (full-day trips)

Scenic, Wild Country

The Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is one of the last remaining strongholds of wild trout, rugged canyon walls, and wildlife corridors. It’s common to see bighorn sheep, mule deer, waterfowl, and the occasional moose or bear along the floats.

Species You May Catch

  • Rainbow Trout

  • Brown Trout

  • Cutthroat Trout

  • Occasionally Cutbows or Whitefish

Techniques We Use

Depending on the season and flows, your guide may fish:

  • Nymph rigs

  • Streamers tight to structure

  • Dry-dropper setups

  • Big terrestrial patterns in late summer

  • Dry fly fishing (when conditions allow)

Float trips give you access to long, fishy drifts and the ability to target multiple types of water in a single day.

RIVERS WE FLOAT

Lower Shoshone River (Cody, WY)

A tailwater fishery known for steady flows, fast-paced action, and excellent year-round potential. The Lower Sho is perfect for anglers of all skill levels, offering riffles, pocket water, deep runs, and plenty of wild trout.

Bighorn River (Wyoming)

A legendary Wyoming tailwater with big browns, strong rainbows, and wide, technical flats. The Bighorn is a must-float for anglers seeking consistent action, quality fish, and classic Western scenery.

North Fork of the Shoshone (select sections, flow-dependent)

A rugged freestone river dropping out of Yellowstone National Park. Floatable only during certain windows depending on water levels. This river offers a wild, scenic, and high-energy float with chances at larger fish.

Lower Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone (flow-dependent)

A powerful, remote freestone system with deep pools, canyon stretches, and long drifts. One of the most scenic and underrated floats in the region. Accessible only when flows allow.

FLOW-DEPENDENT TRIPS

Because our rivers are fed by snowpack, reservoir releases, and weather patterns, float availability changes throughout the season.

Trips that are flow-dependent include:

  • North Fork of the Shoshone

  • Lower Clarks Fork of the Yellowstone

  • Certain upper or lower drifts depending on runoff

Your safety and fishing quality always come first. If water levels aren’t ideal, your guide will recommend the best river available or switch to a walk-wade trip if needed.

Booking Note:

Exact float locations are confirmed 2–7 days before your trip once we have the latest flow data, clarity updates, and weather conditions.
